Description

Signed 1968 Topps Mickey Mantle #280 PSA Authentic, PSA/DNA Auto 10. Mickey Mantle's illustrious career with the New York Yankees came to a sudden end on March 1, 1969, when the burly slugger announced his retirement just as Spring Training was getting underway. He landed in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a few days before and wasn't quite sure if he was going to keep playing or hang up his spikes. After 18 competitive seasons in the bigs, his legs were growing weary. After speaking with Yankees president Mike Burke and manager Ralph Houk, Mickey decided it was time. His Hall of Fame career was nothing short of spectacular, but lingering injuries and his 37-year-old body pushed him to make up his mind. Offered is a 1968 Topps card that captures "The Mick" just before he started playing in what would be his final season. This Authentic example of card #280 from the '68 Topps set has an added bonus, Mantle's prized signature across the front. Mickey signed the card beautifully in blue fine-point marker. His famed half-moon "M's" are on full display. Encapsulated PSA Authentic with a certified autograph graded PSA/DNA Auto 10.
