Description

1952 Cy Young Single Signed First Pitch Baseball. While any baseball bearing an autograph of the sport's most prolific winner is cause for celebration, this particular model adds the enormous further appeal of having been launched by that world-beating arm. A side panel notation in an unknown hand reports the details: "1952 Cleveland Old Time Day Festival, Old time Great Pitcher Cy Young, Ceremonial 1st Pitch, 30 feet short."

Well, we'd like to see what kind of fastball you can throw at age eighty-five! But if Young couldn't quite find the heat of his youth, he was still able to apply a strong autograph to the side panel of the offered OAL (Harridge) sphere, his blue fountain pen ink retaining 7/10 strength nearly seven decades later. To the best of our knowledge, this is the only Young single in the hobby with attribution to a first pitch, a particularly appealing cherry on top. Full LOA from PSA/DNA.
