The "Iron Horse" of Hockey's debut card!

1911 C55 Georges Vézina Rookie #38 PSA EX+ 5.5. The greatness of Joseph Georges Gonzague Vézina is obvious when one considers he was among the 12-member inaugural class inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1945. He was a man of slight build, but he never let his thin frame keep him from becoming the man who many describe as the greatest goaltender to ever play the game. His career saw him start in the National Hockey Association (NHA) and eventually to the National Hockey League (NHL) over the span of 16 years. During his career he helped his team make it into five Stanley Cup finals including two Stanley Cup titles in 1916 and 1924. Vézina was the only man to play his position for the Montreal Canadians for 15 of those years and can be called the "Iron Horse" of hockey. He was loved by fans and respected by teammates who saw him as the heart and soul of the team. After 327 consecutive regular season games and almost 40 playoff appearances he became ill during the first game of the 1925-26 season and left after only one period. Like Gehrig, it was doubtful anyone there imagined he would never play again. Vézina died of tuberculosis on March 27, 1926, a young man yet to celebrate his 40th birthday.

So highly thought of by his team, the Canadians paid him his full salary that year even though he played only one period that entire season. In 1926, the Montreal team donated the Vezina Trophy to the NHL to be awarded to the goaltender who allowed the fewest goals. The first man to win this honor was Vézina's successor, George Hainsworth. Offered is a 1911 C55 Imperial Tobacco rookie card of one of the greatest goaltenders of all-time, Vézina. Graded PSA EX+ 5.5.
