Description
1954 Topps Ernie Banks #94 PSA NM-MT 8. The career of Ernie Banks began in the Negro Leagues with the Kansas City Monarchs in 1950. With the color barrier now but a sad memory is wasn't long before "Mr. Cub" would make his MLB debut in 1953. The future Hall of Famer would end his career in 1971 with the same team - the Chicago Cubs - with which he had made his debut. Banks was named to the Major League Baseball All-Century Team in 1999 for his status as a member of the 500 Home Runs Club, 2,583 career hits and .274 lifetime BA. Banks twice earned the National League MVP award (1957, 1958) and belted out 512 round trippers which made him an idol to the Chicago North-side faithful. In addition to his immense baseball talent on the field it was his personal demeanor that also made him so endearing to fans. From the 1954 Topps series, his rookie is among the hottest commodities in the hobby right now. Every facet of its presentation speaks quality including all flour corners. Graded PSA NM-MT 8. Rated for centering. Many examples have stray ink that seems to be attracted to the white background. That is missing from this prime example that ranks as one of the top 5% finest examples noted on the PSA census from a current total pop of over 3,200 submissions.
