American League MVP season!

1938 Jimmie Foxx Game Worn Boston Red Sox Warm-Up Jacket.

UPDATE: A detailed letter of authenticity from Dave Grob provides photographic evidence that this particular style dates to 1938 specifically. Please see this documentation in our online photography.

Those intrepid collectors of prewar Hall of Fame uniforms have suffered for decades in silence, the only other Foxx garment to appear on the hobby's major auction block in the past twenty years being his 1934 Tour of Japan ensemble. This jacket stands as the only specimen deriving from his Major League wardrobe, so it can be considered pure overkill that it happens to derive from one of the greatest seasons of Foxx' illustrious career.

A careful examination of period photography from leading game worn uniform expert Dave Grob pins this historic garment to his glorious 1938 campaign, a season that saw him win the American League MVP on the strength of league-topping tallies for average (.349) and RBI's (175). Foxx' fifty homers was second only to Hank Greenberg's famous near-miss of Ruth's record at fifty-eight, denying the Red Sox slugger his second Triple Crown. The garment displays beautifully despite the common faults of moth damage to the elasticized wool at waist, cuffs and collar, and some staining and light tearing at the suede sleeves. Certainly the supreme rarity of Foxx uniform pieces renders any condition complaints moot.

Player attribution comes in the form of a distinctive stenciled number "3" at interior button path, as well as a letter of provenance from the son of famous western musical actor Dick Foran that states that his father was friends with Foxx and received the jacket from him in the 1960's. Label at interior collar is from "Tim McAuliffe," a long-time supplier of Red Sox uniforms. There are no size markings, but the jacket measures approximately twenty-three inches (23") from armpit to armpit, consistent with Foxx' muscular build. LOA from MEARS, Authentic. Letter of provenance from son of Foxx friend. LOA from Dave Grob
