Description
1964-65 University of Miami Basketball MVP Trophy Presented to Rick Barry. Before LeBron and Dwyane Wade owned the affection of every basketball fan in southern Florida, it was this man who ruled the Sunshine State, a future Hall of Famer and 50 Greatest Players member celebrated throughout his collegiate and professional career as The Miami Greyhound. The listed trophy was the last earned by Barry before being selected as the second overall pick in the 1965 NBA draft, identifying him as the most valuable Hurricane when, in fact, his NCAA-leading 37.4 points per game arguably made him the top amateur in the entire country. The gold-colored loving cup is engraved, "U.M. Basketball, Most Valuable Player, 1964-65," resting atop a wooden base with an engraved plaque identifying the recipient. Total height is approximately fifteen inches (15"). The trophy was originally sold in 2001 with a letter of provenance from Barry himself, but that document has since been lost. The trophy exhibits general handling and storage wear, but presents without distractions of any significance.
