Description

The only known original artwork for a pre-1980 Ali poster!

1967 Muhammad Ali Music Festival Poster Original Artwork. At the height of the psychedelic Haight-Ashbury music scene in San Francisco, several of the top acts of the day convened on the shores of the Bay to honor the recently crowned Heavyweight Champ. The poster created for the event is extremely rare and highly coveted by collectors, with only a small handful appearing in our comprehensive auction archives.

But there is only one pen and ink original, and we're pleased to present that singular relic here, the genesis of one of the most coveted posters of the 1960's. As one of the foremost voices in the anti-war movement, Ali enjoyed hero status within the "hippie culture" of the era, and his handsome face takes center stage upon this poster announcing an array of musical acts at San Francisco's Hunter's Point, including the Steve Miller Blues Band. Some of the artwork is missing at the bottom corners, but these concerns must be forgiven in light of the importance and uniqueness of the relic. Largest dimensions are 17x22".
