Description

1940-41 Kansas City Americans Game Worn Jersey. Presented here is a rare wool from the American Hockey Association's Kansas City Americans, who were only in operation for the last two seasons of the league's existence from 1940-42. For many years the league struggled, often butting up against opposition from the NHL who considered it an outlaw league for much of its existence. Citing financial troubles, as well as troubles working out affiliations with the NHL, the league shut down during WWII in the fall of 1942. At the time of its creation, the KC Americans were a top farm club of the Chicago Black Hawks.

With a sweater design that echoed those of the New York Americans, this wool gamer is patterned in broad red, white and blue stripes with nine felt stars on the upper front and verso. Collar is a four-eyelet lace-up style. Chest insignia and verso numerals are sewn on in red-on-blue heavy felt. Wear is light but apparent, with a prominent team repair found in the lower right sleeve. It is believed that the number 7 shirt in 1940-41, the date of this great sweater, was worn by former Montreal Maroon Sammy McManus. Fantastic and rare, this elegant vintage design will surely go for a premium. Guide Value or Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500.
