Description

1930's Autograph Album Pages Signed by Walter Johnson, 1934 Cardinals, More. Thirty-five pages removed from an autograph album provide evidence of close encounters with the greatest baseball teams and figures of the Depression. Most notable among the Hall of Fame contingent is a 9/10 Walter Johnson autograph, signed in his capacity as manager of the Cleveland Indians. Three pages featuring the 1934 St. Louis Cardinals, known to history as "The Gashouse Gang," include the Dean brothers, Vance, Durocher, Martin, Orsatti and Gonzalez. A short personalized note from Yankee manager Joe McCarthy is here as well, and even a neat signed exhibit card picturing Lefty Grove in a Boston Red Sox uniform. Also present are Hubbell, Averill, Terry and boxing legend Jack Dempsey. Cochrane, and Goslin are here as well on a pair of pages dedicated to the World Champion 1935 Detroit Tigers. Tremendous break-down value here, or a solid foundation upon which to build a quality pre-war autograph collection. Signature quality is uniformly 9/10 or better, and almost entirely ink with just a scattering of pencil autographs. Pages each range from one to perhaps a dozen signatures, with total count somewhere in the neighborhood of 200. A few clubhouse autographs are here as well, but are not mentioned in this copy. LOA from PSA/DNA. LOA from James Spence Authentication.
