Description

1964 Dave Wilcox Hula Bowl Game Worn Jersey from the Dave Wilcox Collection. What college kid would pass up a chance at a free trip to Hawaii? Certainly not future Hall of Fame legend Wilcox, who gladly accepted the offer to play in this college all-star game of sorts headquartered in our fiftieth state. This red durene jersey issued to Wilcox for the game has contrasting white durene shoulder panel inserts which house an array of screened on blue stars. The star motif continues in white onto the upper portions of the red durene sleeves. The "90" numerals are affixed in white tackle twill in standard, full block font. Why Wilcox wore "90" in this game after wearing "64" at Oregon and continuing with this number for many years with the 49'ers, is open to conjecture. Wilcox personally has no recollection of the number origins, so it is safe to assume that "64" was pre-issued or did not exist. The jersey sports a 1960's era "Spanjian [size] 48" label affixed at the lower left seam area of the front tail. "Spanjian," a major West Coast Uniform distributor, would have been a logical choice as supplier of Hula Bowl uniforms. The jersey shows appropriate single game usage. The stars screening show some color degradation, particularly the white ones, but this does not detract from the jersey's visual appeal, nor do some small unrepaired holes. An important college all-star game representation of an NFL Hall of Famer, sourced directly from the player. LOA from Lou Lampson.
