1997 Derek Jeter Game Worn & Signed Fielder's Glove.
UPDATE: This lot includes a letter of authenticity for the game use of the glove by PSA/DNA.
The 1996 American League Rookie of the Year had all eyes upon him as he returned for his sophomore campaign in pinstripes, and he didn't disappoint. Though the Yanks would fall in the postseason for the only time during Jeter's first five seasons, the superstar shortstop would continue to march toward Hall of Fame immortality with 190 base hits while ably defending the left side of the infield using the offered glove.
This 1997 edition of Rawlings' Pro-5XBCB/11.5 inch fielder's glove exhibits game use characterized as "moderate" by the experts at PSA/DNA, who note wear to the gold foil stamping in the pocket and a defined indentation on the back of the glove where Jeter strung his index finger through the wrist strap. It's important to stress that this black Horween leather glove was manufactured exclusively for the young Yankee, a fact further validated by an embroidered "Derek Jeter" in gold text at the thumb. A silver sharpie autograph (8/10) on the middle finger was applied by Jeter himself, though the experts at PSA/DNA report it has been subsequently enhanced.
A holographic sticker from Steiner, the official marketing source for Yankees game used gear, appears at pinky along with another holographic sticker we cannot identify. PSA/DNA authenticating sticker appears at interior wrist. LOA from PSA/DNA (game use).LOA from Heritage Auctions.
