1965 Willie Mays Game Used Fielder's Glove, PSA/DNA Authentic -- MVP Season! In the 1965 season, Willie Mays delivered one of the finest all-around performances of his Hall of Fame career. At the plate, he blasted 52 home runs-leading the majors-and drove in 112 runs while batting .317, earning the National League Most Valuable Player award. His offensive dominance was complemented by his signature excellence in center field. Mays remained a defensive cornerstone for the San Francisco Giants, showcasing elite range, sure-handed fielding, and an arm that deterred runners from taking extra bases--he led National League outfielders with four double plays. His instincts and ability to read the ball off the bat made him a consistent threat to take away extra-base hits. In addition to winning a Gold Glove for the ninth straight year, Mays appeared in his twelfth consecutive All-Star Game, cementing his status as one of the game's most complete players. His 1965 season is still regarded as one of the greatest single-year performances in baseball history.
Presented is a MacGregor KC2 that patrolled the outfield with the Say Hey Kid during the season he posted the highest WAR (11.2) of his storied career, its leather supple and darkened through sweaty wear and the impact of hundreds of baseballs. Mays' number "24" appears on exterior thumb, and leading glove expert Denny Esken notes that "a modification to the glove has been executed by Mays," but, "to prevent duplication, the modification will remain unnamed."
There is no piece of baseball equipment more personal to its owner than a glove, which quite literally takes on the shape of its master and improves with wear, and such an item once belonging to the man who made the most famous "Catch" in Major League history quite reasonably could be considered an elite treasure of collecting. Furthermore, its derivation from the greatest season of the 1960's greatest player amplifies that enormous appeal.
Glove is presented on a custom wooden stand.
