1922 Pittsburgh Pirates Team Signed Baseball. ONL (Heydler) sphere finds eighteen Bucs on the voyage to more than a century into the future. Headlining the signatures is Rabbit Maranville, whose name appears prominently on the sweet spot with a strength rating of "7". Sharing the sweet spot is Jimmy Mattox. The other signatures are clean and easily legible, though Maranville's autograph stands out as slightly more prominent. Also present are Tierney (lightly signed), Schmidt, Hall of Famer Max Carey, Carlson, Grimm, Bigbee, Morrison, Jonnard, Russell, Glazner, Ens and Mueller. The south panel holds the signatures of Yellowhorse, Adams, M. Klein, Brown and Chuck Klein (5/10 strength).
Collectors will recognize Chuck Klein primarily for his years with the Philadelphia Phillies, though he briefly played with the Pirates in 1939. However, this signature was signed years after the balance of the ball was signed. Additionally, Jimmy Mattox, who appears on the sweet spot, only reached the majors briefly in 1922. That year also marked the only major league season for Walter Mueller and the final season for Yellowhorse.
