1998 Ultra Masterpiece Michael Jordan #85P PSA EX 5. Presented is a singularly rare one-of-one parallel from Fleer's 1998-99 Ultra basketball release, created during Jordan's final season with the Chicago Bulls. As part of the "Masterpiece" parallel set, this card carries the unique serial marking "The Only One of One Masterpiece Edition" on the reverse, however we must mention that there are mysteriously two examples in the PSA population--this being the superior example of that pair. These Masterpiece cards were randomly inserted into hobby boxes and mirror the base set checklist, offering one-of-one versions of both stars and role players from the era.
The 1998-99 Ultra set features an array of top-tier talent including Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, and Paul Pierce, but Jordan's card stands as the crown jewel of the Masterpiece run. As the defining player of his generation and a global icon with six NBA titles, five MVP awards, and countless accolades, Michael Jordan is widely considered the most desirable subject in any modern insert or parallel set.
The verso image provides an aerial view of His Airness about to throw one down at the Garden as a Knicks defender tries in vain to stop the inevitable. And did you notice the Air Jordan 1's making a comeback here?
On March 8, 1998, Michael Jordan wore the original Air Jordan 1 "Chicago" colorway during a game at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks. This was a highly symbolic moment, as it marked what would be his final game at MSG as a member of the Chicago Bulls. Jordan chose to wear the same model he debuted in 1985 - the Air Jordan 1 - as a personal tribute to his journey and legacy.
He scored 42 points in the game, helping the Bulls to a 102-89 victory. Despite the strong performance, Jordan later commented that his feet were "bleeding" by halftime due to the lack of modern cushioning in the older sneakers. That moment became one of the most memorable "full-circle" events in NBA and sneaker history, merging nostalgia with performance and spotlighting his unique connection to Madison Square Garden.
It's a special card for the advanced Jordan collector, graded
PSA EX 5.
