Description:
1912 C57 "Hockey Series" Complete Set (50) - #2 on the PSA Set Registry! NOTE: The description has been updated to reflect upgrades. As of April 10, 2010 the set has a 4.88 GPA and is 74% EX to EX/MT with not a single card grading below the VG-EX 4 level!
Rank: #2 on the PSA Set registry with a 4.88 GPA
. This is a presentation all hockey collectors dream of owning. Of the three 1910-1912 tobacco sets, the C57 edition is by far the most difficult for collectors to find, overall, let alone in middle to high grade. The thought of piecing together a complete set of 50 cards of largely matching quality is almost beyond the upper limits of reality. The set is excellence personified. Twenty cards either equal the highest grade known or have just one nicer example known including hockey legend Art Ross in EX-MT. This condition rarity is one of only three known for the grade with none higher! Another twenty-one subjects show only two or three nicer examples recorded. The only finer assembly is less than one grade nicer-5.41 vs 4.88. With some ice cold determination and some luck, this set could actually have a chance to rank in the coveted #1 position on the registry. All of the top players like Ross, Malone, Lalonde, Moran, etc. sit among the highest grade levels. Includes: Graded - PSA EX-MT 6: 5 cards, #'s 20 Ross (Pop 3, none higher), 29 Darragh (Pop 2, none higher), 33 Kerr (Pop 2, none higher), 35 Kendall (Pop 3, none higher) and 40 Boyce (Pop 3, none higher); PSA EX+ 5.5: 1 card, #30 Shore; PSA EX 5: 31 cards, #'s 2 Broadbent (Pop 3, none higher), 5 Dunderdale (Pop 2, one higher), 6, 7 Delaire (Pop 2, none higher), 8, 9, 10, 11, 15 Cleghorn, 16 Hall, 17, 18 Moran, 19 Hyland, 21, 22 Smaill, 23 Roberts, 24 Gardner, 25 Johnson, 26 Russell, 27 Lesueur, 31, 34 Gerard (Pop 3, one higher), 36 Fournier (Pop 4, none higher), 37, 38, 42, 43 Taylor (Pop 4, one higher), 44 Lalonde (Pop 4, two higher), 45 Pitre, 46 Laviolette and 48 Malone (Pop 2, one higher); PSA VG-EX+ 4.5: 5 cards, #'s 12, 28 Ridpath, 32, 41 Patrick and 49 Walsh; PSA VG-EX 4: 8 cards, #'s 1 Vezina (Pop 4, only one higher), 3 Benedict, 4, 13 Lindsay, 14, 39, 47 and 50 O. Cleghorn.
