Description:
Early 1960's Jack Nicklaus Match Used Wedge with Nicklaus Letter. Soon after the Golden Bear used this MacGregor wedge then gifted it to his caddy, it became the prize in a nine-hole tournament for members of the golf team at his Ohio State University alma mater. A letter from the winner of that tournament, the captain of the OSU golf team, explains that Nicklaus' former caddy owed him and a teammate some money, and so the idea was hatched for a winner-take-all tournament. The letter goes on to explain that the winner contacted Nicklaus about the club decades later, and the response, a typed signed letter (including mailing envelope) from the golf icon, is included. It reads,

"Dear Jeff: Your recent note was forwarded to me by Peter Morrice at Golf Magazine. I'm sure that wedge was mine at one time, because that's the way MacGregor used to stamp my name on my clubs. I couldn't tell you exactly when I used it, but it has most likely been in my bag. Good golfing, [signed] Jack Nicklaus."

The owner notes that he won the club in 1965, which would assure early 1960's use by Nicklaus. The wedge exhibits fine use but no damage, with "Jack Nicklaus" imprinted in small block lettering on the head beneath the facsimile Tommy Armour signature. A rare and very exciting opportunity to own a club from the bag of golf's most accomplished Champion, from very early in his illustrious career.Letter of provenance from Jack Nicklaus. Letter of provenance from subsequent owner. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication (Nicklaus autograph on letter). Pre-certified by PSA/DNA (Nicklaus autograph on letter).
