Description:
Sourced from the family of a former Jets team owner
1967 Emerson Boozer Original Painting by LeRoy Neiman. Chosen in the sixth round of the 1966 AFL draft, Emerson Boozer was initially envisioned by Jets coach Weeb Eubank as a complement to star fullback Matt Snell, but when Snell was sidelined by injury early in the 1967 season the young rusher flourished in the leading role, drawing comparisons to Gale Sayers for his open field abilities and propensity for breaking tackles. But Boozer was soon hobbled by a devastating knee injury of his own and was forced to revamp his game, transforming from a breakaway rusher into one of the game's most devastating lead blockers, and a short yardage expert adept at breaking goal line stands. His bulldozing presence in Super Bowl III was key in the Jets' sole visit to paydirt as he freed up Snell for his historic four-yard scamper into the Colts end zone to capture a lead they would never relinquish.

Neiman expertly captures the imposing presence of this two-time Pro Bowler in the presented work, acquired by our consignor from the same source that supplies this Platinum Night auction with the marvelous Joe Namath portrait. The 9.5x5.5" oil on board is a textbook example of the artist's celebrated impressionistic style, a balancing act between order and chaos that pairs kaleidoscopic blasts of color with delicate detail. The artist's signature and "'67" date appear at lower left.

The work is housed in its original museum quality frame that completes the dimensions at 13.5x9.5".
