1918 James Naismith Handwritten Signed Letter. A heartwarming and very loving letter from the inventor of the sport of basketball to an even more precious creation, his daughter. Naismith writes from his post in France where he was serving as a military and YMCA secretary and lecturer in moral conditions and sex education in the closing years of the Great War. He talks about a waiter trying to stiff him on a restaurant bill, and of the tough life in the war-torn city. "There are some lonely women & girls in France and the home life here is just splendid. But taking it all in all, you know that song of Van Dykes, America for me!"I Fortuitously, though somewhat surprisingly, the father signs off with his full name, closing, "Ever your pal & loving Daddy Boy, Jim Naismith." The four separate handwritten pages measure 5.25x8" each, and all ink is 9/10, including the closing signature. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
