Description

1971-72 Ted Williams Game Worn Texas Rangers Jersey. Arguably the most desirable and significant artifact relating to the Texas Rangers franchise available to the collecting community, the offered home white jersey once owned and worn by the greatest hitter of all time dates to the very inception of the Lone Star State ballclub. It's a fact proven by a close examination of the jersey front, which clearly exhibits the stitching pattern of the old scripted "Senators" text beneath the current "Rangers" lettering, indicating that the shirt was reconditioned as Teddy Ballgame and his team embarked upon their southwestern relocation. The number "9" on verso, worn throughout Williams' illustrious playing career, remains unmoved and original to its days in our nation's capital. "Wilson" label at interior collar features embroidered size "48" notation, matching the "1971-Set 2" chain stitching at lower left front tail. Wear is very solid throughout.

While any Ted Williams jersey carries enormous collecting appeal, this specimen worn three decades after his greatest season is unquestionably his most noteworthy non-playing days representation. By virtue of its managerial status, one could effectively argue that this is the very first Texas Rangers jersey, period. That fact alone establishes the shirt as one of the most historically significant to be offered in recent memory, even without its connection to one of the game's all-time greats. Lower left front tail is autographed in 9+/10 black sharpie. Graded A8 by MEARS, with the two point deduction from a perfect rating due solely to the team-instituted logo change, which is, in our opinion, a huge part of the garment's appeal. LOA from MEARS. LOA from Heritage Auctions. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).

Another major house refused the work stating it was too unique for the artist. Heritage saw that as an advantage!
