1968 Jim Northrup Game Worn Detroit Tigers Jersey. He was the hero of the decisive Game Seven of the 1968 World Series, smashing a seventh inning line drive triple over the head of Cardinals center fielder Curt Flood to break a scoreless tie and plate what would prove to be the decisive run in a tense Busch Stadium contest. Though this is not the road grey flannel Northrup wore that day, it dates to that World Championship season and exhibits a full season's wear, quite possibly inclusive of action in one or more of the other three St. Louis games of that historic Fall Classic. The classic understated style features a navy tackle twill block lettered "Detroit" in a gentle arch across the chest, with number "5" applied to the right sleeve and verso in the same material. "Rawlings [size] 44" label appears at interior collar, and lower left front tail holds a washing instructions tag with "Set 1 1968" flap tag affixed. Letter of provenance from a Detroit-area sports memorabilia dealer in the late 1970's attests to having purchased the jersey from Herm Kander, the scout who first signed Northrup to a Tigers contract in 1964. Letter of provenance from early owner. LOA from Heritage Auctions.
