Description:
Circa 1960 Mel Allen "Game Worn" Fedora. "How about that?" For millions of New Yorkers, the sound of Mel Allen's voice will immediately transport them back to the glory days of Big Apple baseball when legends like DiMaggio and Mantle ruled the game. Like Bear Bryant, another favorite son of Alabama, Allen was famous for his ever-present houndstooth fedora, and here we present one of Allen's favorites. It was consigned to auction by Allen's siblings and purchased by famed collector Barry Halper, whose letter of provenance attends. The hat exhibits solid wear with considerable sweat-staining at the interior, indicative of many a toasty summer day in the Bronx. Letter of provenance from Barry Halper.
