1960-61 Carl Yastrzemski Game Used Fielder's Glove, MEARS Authentic....
But worth far more than its weight in gold is this debut model, a Rawlings XPG3 utilized as Yastrzemski made the transition from the 1960 Minneapolis Millers to the 1961 Boston Red Sox. Assurance comes from the man himself, who inscribes "My gamer--Yaz" on the heavily worn wristband next to a faded number "8." He also autographs the pinky in blue. Exceptional wear is evident throughout, suggestive of countless hours of wear on the 1967 Triple Crown-winner's left hand.
While uniforms and bats tend to monopolize the market for game used collectors, it's worthy of note that the humble fielder's glove is the most personal, and thus arguably the most significant, resident of the subgenre. The others may come and go, but a fielder's glove is quite literally molded over time and use to the hand of its master, singular and indispensable. The opportunity to own such a piece from the earliest days of such a long and distinguished career as Yastrzemski's is one to be taken very seriously. LOA from MEARS, Authentic. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph). Full LOA from PSA/DNA (autograph). LOA from Heritage Auctions.
