Description:
1921 New York Giants World Championship Pendant Presented to Pitcher E.J. "Pat" Flaherty. Flaherty made it no further than the bullpen in the Majors, though he did achieve a degree of baseball immortality with an appearance in the 1921 Zeenut trading card set, in which he appeared as a representative of the San Francisco Seals. Historians theorize that Flaherty was briefly acquired by the New York Giants due to the potential for nine games of World Series competition, though the first American League Champion Yankees were felled in eight without Flaherty's assistance. Presented is the fourteen-karat gold prize issued to Flaherty despite his absence from the Fall Classic box score, a gorgeously crafted pendant from the fabled artisans of "Dieges & Clust," whose mark appears on verso. The face features a female victory form holding a laurel wreath and a shield inset with a red stone, which is likely a replacement of the original diamond as found in the few other known specimens. Text reads, "Giants, World's Champions, 1921." On verso, text reads, "Presented to E.J. 'Pat' Flaherty, Pitcher, by the Commissioner of Baseball."

Let us make it clear that this is the 1921 equivalent of the Championship ring, the main jewelry award for winning the Series. Almost never do such early Championship artifacts surface within the hobby, and bidders should see this as a rare and special opportunity. The pendant remains in wonderful condition with just the slightest evidence of light wear. Our catalog imagery should illustrate just what an attractive and impressive offering this is. Included is a letter of provenance from the consignor, who attests that he purchased the award from Flaherty's grandson. Consignor letter of provenance.
