Description:
1917 Chicago Cubs & White Sox Advertising Sign. Enormous in both dimension and collector appeal, this treasure of Dead Ball Era advertising provides marvelous team photographs of both Windy City franchises wearing "Patrick-Duluth Mackinaws" on the diamonds at Wrigley Field and Comiskey Park respectively. Each player is identified in the lower border area of the photos, with all Eight Men Out (Gandil, McMullin, Weaver, Jackson, Risberg, Felsch, Cycotte (sic) and Williams) appearing on the World Championship White Sox side. Other notables are Vaughn and Demaree for the Cubs, and Collins, Schalk and Gleason for the Sox. The cardstock relic folds out at center to 15.5x36" in total size, and presents marvelously with professional restoration of diagonal cracks forming triangles at each upper corner. Our catalog imagery should properly indicate how inconsequential these flaws appear upon viewing. Some minor dampstaining is also barely visible. Considering the size and advanced age of the piece, the condition could only fairly be characterized as impressive. Surely none finer could exist, if any others exist at all.
