Description:
1967 Jose Santiago World Series Home Run Game Used Bat. Bob Gibson had a pretty good World Series against the "Impossible Dream" Red Sox in 1967. Three complete-game wins, 26 strikeouts in 27 innings, and a total of three runs allowed. This bat, with the assistance of Jose Santiago, Gibson's opposing pitcher in two of his three wins, accounted for one of those runs. In Game one on Oct. 4, 1967, in his first at bat in a World Series, Santiago saved this Hillerich & Bradsby S100 ash bat to great effect, socking a third-inning home run of the legendary Bob Gibson for the only run the Red Sox would be able to muster in Santiago's two World Series starts that fall. Surrendering home runs to anyone was something Gibson found objectionable; giving up one to a pitcher in a World Series must have annoyed him no end. Santiago, on the other hand, was/is justifiably enthused about his foray into the record books, so much so that he jubilantly inscribed this bat, "1967 World Series home run vs. Bob Gibson first at bat" and signed it "Jose Santiago, Boston Red Sox #30." If all of that doesn't convince you, there's also a Letter of Authenticity from PSA/DNA attesting to the game use of the 34.5-inch, 32.2-oz.Don Demeter Pro Model bat, noting slight checking (grain swelling) from repeated ball contact, many ball marks and stitch impressions, cleat marks and a heavy coat of pine tar on the upper handle. Any volunteers out there who would like to take the bat to an autograph show and ask Bob Gibson if he'd like to add his signature? Pre-certified by PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
