Description

1959 Mickey Mantle All-Star Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8.5. In an effort to raise additional funds for the players' pension fund, the 1959 All-Star Game was presented as a "doubleheader," with the first contest waged July 7th at Pittsburgh's Forbes Field and the second on August 3 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The presented Adirondack 113A was delivered to Mantle for use is one (or perhaps both) of those exhibitions, though the considerable use suggests even more than two games' action. The flame-burned ash relic measures thirty-five and a half inches in length at a weight of thirty-one and a half ounces, perfectly matching Mantle's preferred specs for the era. His surname appears in block lettering on the barrel, just to the right of the important "1959 All Star" designation.

The grain of the barrel is slightly swelled from its punishment in the hands of the sport's premier slugger, and pock-marked with cleat marks suffered as Mantle knocked the clay from his spikes. Red bat rack streaking on the barrel may help indicate the stadium of usage.

While any Mantle bat carries considerable collecting appeal, those rare surviving specimens specially crafted for use in the Midsummer or Fall Classic are particularly prized by the discerning collector. This appeal is exponentially increased by the 1950's vintage, as game gear from the first half of Mantle's Hall of Fame career is considerably more scarce than 1960's models. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8.5.
