1956 Willie Mays Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 9. Rare and enormously desirable weapon from the arsenal of the game's greatest five-tool player dates to a momentous season for the young Giant, one in which he became the second Major Leaguer in history (after Ken Williams) to join the vaunted 30/30 club (with thirty-six homers and forty steals). At the close of the season, he headlined a barnstorming exhibition called the Willie Mays Major League Negro-American All-Stars Tour, joined by Frank Robinson, Hank Aaron, Monte Irvin and other black superstars of the day.

Five years removed from his Rookie of the Year debut season, and two from the glorious World Championship season of 1954, Mays was at the height of his brilliance when he instilled the thirty-five inches of blonde ash presented here with use characterized as "outstanding" by top bat expert John Taube. Ball marks and stitch impressions are evident, as are several green stripes from the bat rack. The signature model Hillerich & Bradsby W173 remains uncracked, and tips the scales at just under thirty-five ounces.

The black sharpie signature on the barrel has been graded PSA/DNA Mint 9. LOA (for bat) from PSA/DNA, GU 9. LOA (for autograph) from PSA/DNA, Mint 9. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication (autograph).
