Description:
The 1949 National League MVP provides a solid encore
1950 Jackie Robinson Game Used Bat, PSA/DNA GU 8. Talk about progress. Just four years after his 1947 debut righted the most egregious wrong perpetrated by our National Pastime, Robinson celebrated Opening Day of 1950 as the highest paid Brooklyn Dodger in franchise history at a salary of $35,000 (over $333,000 in 2013 dollars). Though his Bums were edged by Philadelphia's Whiz Kids for the National League pennant, Robinson's efforts were essential to keeping it a tight pennant race, batting .328 with ninety-nine runs scored and leading the Senior Circuit in double plays turned by a second baseman with 133. Clearly this was a player at the pinnacle of his abilities.

The single season labeling style of this signature model Hillerich & Bradsby H4 allows definitive attribution to the gaudy stats of that 1950 campaign, the pale ash weapon exhibiting use characterized as "moderate" by the hobby's top bat expert. PSA/DNA's John Taube directs our attention to ball marks and stitch impressions on the back barrel of the hefty thirty-six ounce gamer. Length is thirty-five inches.

A signed and notarized letter from the original recipient of the bat from Robinson, still a resident of Brooklyn, identifies the date of his exciting meeting with the future Hall of Famer as May 21, 1950, a tough ten to nine loss to the Reds at Ebbets Field. Robinson recorded a hit in the contest to end the game at an impressive .333 average. LOA from PSA/DNA, GU 8. Letter of provenance from original recipient.
