Description:
1926-28 Tris Speaker Game Used Bat, MEARS A7.5. Direct from the talons of the Grey Eagle comes this rare and enormously desirable Spalding No. 200 Hand Turned gamer, exhibiting heavy use from the close of one of the greatest careers of the early twentieth century. The volume of use evident in ball marks, stitch impressions, cleat marks and grain checking on rear barrel is to be expected from a man who still remains in the top five for career hits over eight decades after his final at-bat.

The experts at MEARS stress in their letter of examination that Speaker was a known user of Spalding lumber from 1914 through 1920, and that this model, the first to sport the ball and diamond logo center brand (only used for professional model bats), is consistent with Speaker's Louisville records at thirty-six inches of length and forty-two ounces of weight. "Speaker" is stamped into the barrel, where a scattering of cleat marks form a ring around the barrel. The bat garners a base grade of 5/5 for fidelity to known Speaker exemplars, and a full 3/3 for game use, losing a half-point for a chipped knob and the aforementioned barrel marks. LOA from MEARS, A7.5.
