Description

1962 Stan Musial 700th Double Baseball. The superstar Cardinal became the third man in Major League history (Pete Rose later made it a quartet) to record 700 doubles with the ONL (Giles) ball presented here, joining Tris Speaker and Ty Cobb in one of the most exclusive Clubs in the sport. His victim was none other than fellow future Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry, who had come in as relief for San Francisco Giants right-hander Jack Sanford, who would take the loss in this June 9, 1962 contest. Musial would improve his batting average to a lofty .340 in his two-hit performance this day, remaining firmly in the race for the National League batting title at age forty-one (though he'd ultimately finish third). Like the other game used baseballs in The Stan Musial Collection, neat period handwriting details all pertinent information about the achievement, and the ball exhibits expected wear from its date with baseball history.
Letter of provenance from the Musial family.
