Description:
1916 M101-5 Blank Back Babe Ruth Rookie #151 SGC Authentic! The man whose superior home run-hitting abilities singlehandedly redefined the sport of baseball had yet to reach the double-digit mark when this historic card was produced in 1916. Ironically, the contribution of "The Babe" to the success of the 1916 Boston Red Sox World Championship was his talent as a pitcher. The youngster from Baltimore led the American League with a stingy 1.75 earned run average, appeared in 44 games (starting 40) posting an impressive 23-12 W-L record that included 9 shutouts. He would place just 3 baseballs into the hands of fans in the outfield stands all season.

The card has been encapsulated SGC Authentic because is was hand cut from a full sheet that contained all 200 M101-5 subjects. Exposed to moisture and looking dingy, the sheet had certainly seen better times. Major portions were missing but thank fully the treasured area featuring the immortal man-child from Baltimore was left intact. The card now measures 1-5/8" x 3-1/16." Surfaces are soiled; edges show flaking of portions of the top layer along segments of edges; web cracking of the surface gloss has absorbed dirt contributing to the soiling as well as some overall age toning to the thin card stock. Sounds worse than it is. This is a perfect card for the hobbyist on a modest budget. Sheet cut status aside, this is a completely 100% real babe Ruth rookie card! A card every collector wants to own.
