Description:
1915 PM1 Ornate Frame Pins Ty Cobb. The greatest name of the Dead Ball era demonstrates the wide stance and grip that gave birth to over 4,000 hits. The most extensively represented baseball figure from the tobacco days, Cobb is found in very good to excellent condition from one of only a small surviving population of pins of the era. The issue still remains largely shrouded in mystery but it has been established that these Ornate-frame Pins date to 1915, the identity of the original issuer and the mode of distribution remain enigmas. Those hobbyists who have met with this rare issue are well aware that condition problems seem to be an inevitability when collecting PM1's. This strong example shows slight oxidation/toning but no damage to the delicate metal frame or pin arm or enclosure. A series of light creasing of the central image is present with the lightest amounts of surface crackling to the delicate glossy surface which exists on some level to seemingly all specimens. An attractive pin from the most sought after baseball pin back promotion.
