1914 Boston Garter Color Rabbit Maranville SGC 40 VG 3 - One of Two Graded. Walter "Rabbit" Maranville was diminutive (he stood 5'5" and weighed under 160 pounds) in size but was a sturdy shortstop who had speed (thus his nickname) who loved to entertain and play jokes on his teammates. When Maranville retired, his 23 years of service was a National League record. His sole World Series championship came the very year this rare Boston Garter display card appeared as part of the now famous "Miracle Braves" of 1914. His ability was duly recognized here, placing him among only a dozen subjects, most of whom have been enshrined in Cooperstown. The front shows one brief segment of wear in the bottom edge near the lower left corner and modest corner wear. The reverse displays a small area of surface loss in the upper right corner, one short surface scratch in upper left corner and some light staining/age toning. As one of only two copies ever graded by SGC, this is rare opportunity for the type collector wishing to fill a entry missing from some of the most advanced type-card collections or for the Boston Garter specialist determined enough pursue a complete set of the small but extremely rare series.
