1910 E98 "Set of 30" Honus Wagner PSA Mint 9 - Black Swamp Find. Certain collecting goals within this hobby have been up until 2012 a close to impossible proposition. Before the once-in-a-lifetime find of cards that emerged from an area once nothing more than a watery section of earth, less than a handful of career contemporary Wagner cards have shared the revered "Mint 9" labeling (cards with round corners excluded). Today, "Own a Honus Wagner card in Mint condition" could be scratched off your collecting bucket list. Granted, it won't have that iconic Carl Horner portrait but a close to full-figure depiction that caramel collectors have come to recognize all their own of the Hall of Fame shortstop. Few would argue this card is anything short of the centerpiece of an extraordinary vintage collection. The likeness is captioned with the more casual "Hans" name but the portrait is graceful and confident, displaying all of the grace and splendor of Wagner on the field.

Graded PSA Mint 9, one of five endowed with a Mint assessment with no green variation grading higher. As befits an awe-inspiring relic that projects such physical grandeur, we are nothing short of amazed we are able to state that this copy holds "1 of 5" distinction, standing atop the census report data. It must be emphasized that this E98 presentation of Wagner has somehow maintained dramatically sharp fidelity through the passage of more than a full century. Missing will be the usual, "touches of superficial wear at the corners' tips" as this card bears no signs of human handling.

Just months ago, the most significant trading card find in hobby history emerged from a small Ohio town, neat individual player stacks of untouched cards, each banded by a short length of twine tied by a print shop employee a full century ago. Discovered in an attic in a box long forgotten beneath an ancient dollhouse, these stunningly pristine relics from the Dead Ball Era made their hobby debut in the August 2012 Platinum Night auction in Baltimore, providing the Heritage clientele with an opportunity outpacing even the most fanciful dreams of the pre-war trading card collector. Named for the damp landscape on the edge of Defiance, Ohio, where the cards served their one hundred years of solitude, the Black Swamp Find provides candy card collectors with the opportunity to add a scarce high-grade issue to their collection which was never available before. Here we make the first public offering, and possibly the only offering, of individual cards from that historic find. The remainder of the find will be offered as complete sets via private treaty sale, so this represents the best opportunity for bidders that are interested in owning an individual card from the Black Swamp Find to add one to their collection now.
