Description:
1902-11 W600 Sporting Life John "Hans" Wagner Cabinets-Uniform PSA EX 5 (MK). An exquisite Carl Horner photograph of the Hall of Fame shortstop acts as the centerpiece of this extraordinary 5-1/4" x 7-1/2" premium artifact. The dignified likeness is the same illustration employed on Wagner's famed T206 collectible, a storied piece with which this large and impressive cabinet arguably shares equivalent rarity. The image is captioned with Wagner's name, club affiliation, and position; the surround features an embossed advertisement for Sporting Life, the publication to which the hobby is indebted for producing the spectacular W600's, circa 1902-11. Upholding all of the grace and splendor inherent in the period studio-cabinet portraits it was designed to emulate, this portrayal, not surprisingly, stands as a dominating one. It's fully capable of taking over the stage when arrayed with items that might be similarly scarce, but which suffer in comparison to top-drawer expression of the photographer's art and the cabinet's painstakingly crafted construction.

As befits an awe-inspiring relic that projects such physical grandeur, this copy holds "1 of 1" distinction, standing alone atop a meager census that lists just five examples, in total. It must be emphasized that this cabinet's Horner presentation of Wagner is peerless, having maintained dramatically sharp fidelity through the passage of a full century. Touches of superficial scuffing at the corners' tips (primarily on the reverse) do not affect their strong, right-angle shaping, which remains fundamentally sound. The premium's grade is qualified solely on the basis of a vintage fountain pen notation neatly scripted on the reverse side.
