1927 Honey Boy Ice Cream Near Set (16/21).
Each card has
been graded by SGC. Every subject has a total population of six or
fewer, most pop totals are four or less. A true "attic find" this
fresh-to-the-hobby presentation has been the property of one family
since the 1920's. Found among the personal belongings in the
proverbial "trunk in the attic" the cards have remained in rather
nice condition for the last 82 years. This rare series is on the
want list of almost every advanced collector. Their rarity is
likely explained by the offer of a free "brick" of ice cream which
could be exchanged for a complete set of 21-cards. Particularly
interesting is that the cards were only "redeemable at our plant"
suggesting the circulation of these 1-9/16" x 2-3/8" thin card
stock collectibles was limited to one local town. As was the
practice with these promotions which could be exchanged for a
valuable prize, one card was pulled from circulation. In light of
what we know from other sets, George Sisler (card #11) is missing
here from an original holding plus the pop report shows only one
submitted Sisler. We believe that much like the important "pulled"
cards, Sisler is the extremely rare control card for Honey Boy. The
overall rarity of the set camouflaged any additional level of
rarity of a single subject. In addition to this 16-card partial set
we offer four additional single card lots of stars "Steamer"
Maxwell (his only card appearance), Tris Speaker, Grover Alexander
and Babe Ruth. Includes: Graded
