Part two of this remarkable collection

1912 Christy Mathewson Double-Signed Page with Extraordinary Provenance. We refer interested parties to the lot immediately preceding this one for the charming and thoroughly documented story of this lot's creation, a joint venture between a concerned father and a legendary ballplayer to mitigate punishment rendered by a college dean to a young lady for a school absence in order to attend the 1912 World Series to see her pop's favorite pitcher. Feeling rather guilty for having encouraged his daughter's game of hooky, the gentlemen sent a letter to his favorite Giant requesting an autograph, writing, "I believe the young lady is a fan, good enough to deserve your autograph, but if you should send it my second daughter would, no doubt, appropriate it at once."

As noted in the photocopy of the newspaper article detailing this kind correspondence (original will be provided in previous lot), Mathewson included with his cover letter a 3x5" page autographed twice, one for each daughter, proactively ending any disputes over ownership. This remarkable double-signed page is presented here, each black fountain pen autograph rating 9/10 on the unlined paper. The second signature is dated "12/23/12" in Matty's hand.

We stress that this lot includes only the double-signed page, but quality photocopies of Mathewson's cover letter and the newspaper article detailed in the copy of the previous lot will be included as well. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
