The fifty-six year old veteran skipper would lead his 1929 Giants to eighty-four wins during the season beginning just four days ahead, good enough for a third place finish in the National League he had conquered ten times since taking the managerial reins in 1902. McGraw remains a favorite among residents of Baltimore for his early years of playing service to Ned Hanlon's World Champion Orioles, and is buried at Baltimore's New Cathedral Cemetery, less than five miles from the auction podium where this bat will find its new owner.
