Late 1940's Jim Bottomley Single Signed Baseball. Nicknamed "Sunny Jim" for his consistently upbeat disposition, the star first baseman was an indispensable part of the equation that delivered four National League pennants and two World Championship to the fans of the St. Louis Cardinals over a six-season span (1926-31). With an average of 115 runs batted in per season during this torrid stretch, Bottomley proved a fitting counterpart to Yankees first sacker Lou Gehrig, and today his autograph is even more scarce than the Iron Horse's coveted script. His posthumous Hall of Fame induction, a full fifteen years after his 1959 passing, has further widened the gap between supply and demand, and here we present just the third Bottomley single to reach the auction block of a major house in the twenty-first century.

The star-spangled ONL (Frick) stamping allows us to pinpoint the production to a period between 1946 and 1951, indicating a rare visit to a ballpark during a retirement spent largely on his cattle farm far away from autograph seekers. His black fountain pen side panel offering is in ideal unpersonalized format, mellowed to a brown but still very bold 8/10 shade over the passing of decades. The horsehide itself is creamy and clean, helping to establish this as quite possibly the finest known example. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Full LOA from James Spence Authentication.
