Description

Circa 1940 Walter Johnson Single Signed Baseball. In 1917, a Connecticut arms laboratory recorded Johnson's fastball at 134 feet per second, equal to ninety-nine miles per hour, a speed the lanky farmboy was somehow able to generate with a smooth sidearmed motion that baffled and terrified opposing batters. New York Highlanders outfielder Birdie Cree provided his own methodology for handling Johnson's speed: "When you see the arm start forward, swing." Presented is one of the finest Big Train singles we've ever encountered, boasting a 9/10 black fountain pen signature on the sweet spot of a non-official sphere. The fragments of the original box, where the ball spent many a lonely decade awaiting its introduction to the collecting hobby, is included. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
