Description:
1948 Jackie Robinson Single Signed Baseball. While most baseball historians would crown the Babe as the most important figure in twentieth century baseball, a strong argument could be made for this man, who stood up to the taunts and threats of the bigoted masses using his Hall of Fame skill and quiet courage. Presented is a stunning and rare early-career single which competes for the title of "Finest Jackie Robinson Single Known to Exist." We begin with the ideal medium, the ONL (Frick) model baseball that greeted Robinson upon his groundbreaking Dodgers debut. The ball maintains a gorgeous creamy vanilla tone with bold stamping. Robinson's side panel signature is unpersonalized, and rates a staggering 9+/10, the autograph as bold as the day it was applied. A notation in an unknown hand dates the ball on the sweet spot to "Aug. 29, 1948," a day the Bums took both halves of a doubleheader at Sportsman's Park, where Robinson encountered the ugliest protests while traveling with the Dodgers in the early years. An absolutely stellar example of a baseball that is essential to any quality autograph collection. Full LOA from PSA/DNA. Auction LOA from James Spence Authentication.
