Description:

1940-41 Bill Carse Game Worn Jersey. After viewing the gorgeous patch prominently displayed on this jersey, and the Chicago Blackhawks' famed "Barber Pole" wool, you sure don't need the experts at Heritage to tell you that this style is regarded as one of the best hockey jerseys ever made, in the eyes of vintage hockey sweater collectors. It's pretty obvious, isn't it? The player that was fortunate enough to wear this beauty, who was also a P.O.W. in the second World War, Bill Carse used this garment during the 1940-41 season. As do all great pieces of memorabilia, this one is also accompanied by a great story. The consignor is the brother of a woman who worked with her mother at a popular steakhouse that just happened to be located on Michigan Avenue near Chicago Stadium, the former home of the Black Hawks. The woman befriended some of the players and she obtained this great collectible in the early 1950's. In addition to the story, our hockey expert Bill Campbell was able to date this sweater by the style of hair on the Blackhawks patch, and the era of the "McNiece's" tag located in the collar. The wear and various scuff marks only add to the quality of this gem, which is in very solid condition. The red and white affixed number will look very familiar to hockey collectors, as the Blackhawks' number "9" was also Bobby Hull's number, who obviously played later than Carse, and is now retired by the franchise. You don't get too many chances to own a "Holy Grail" style jersey, so if this one tickles your fancy, the time is now to get in on the action. LOA from Joe Tomon.
