Description:

1953 New York Yankees World Championship Ring Presented to Joe Collins. The mighty Yanks made it five Fall Classic victories in a row this year, putting the finishing touch on the greatest era of domination ever orchestrated by a Major League franchise. Here we present the treasure waiting at the end of that brilliant rainbow for first baseman Joe Collins, who had been a fixture at the primary sack for the bulk of those glory years. The ring comes to us from Joe's son with his letter of provenance, which notes that this was his father's most cherished Championship award, only worn on truly special occasions, like Old Timers' Days at Yankee Stadium. This loving care accounts for the splendid Mint condition of this gorgeous keepsake, featuring a glimmering diamond set in a number "5" on the face, punctuating the incredible Championship streak. "New York Yankees, World Champions" rings the perimeter. Each shank features the classic "hat and bat" Yankees logo and the year "1953." Engraved inside the size 11.5 band is "Joseph E. Collins." Almost assuredly the finest surviving example of this coveted ring in terms of condition, and a fine remembrance of a solid contributor to a decade of wonderful Bronx memories.

Note that only eighteen of these rings were ever made, and this is just the second 1953 model to reach the auction block. Since this was the fifth straight Championship for the Yanks, many players and staff opted for other gifts besides rings, accounting for the scarcity today. Guide Value or Estimate: $20,000 - up.
