Baseball Cards
1951 Bowman Whitey Ford #1 SGC 40 VG 3. This week Heritage is offering 25 lots of 1951 Bowman baseball cards featuring all of the top names including a rookie card of Willie Mays in excellent condition. Be sure to check for the cards you are looking for as most descriptions list every card number and in most instances cards are different both within each lot from lot-to-lot.

What a netter way to start off the set than with the top pitcher of the era. This condition sensitive card of the Yankees great is usually found in lesser grade with multiple creases. This SGC 40 VG 3 example has but one light corner crease. A solid middle garde copy.
1951 Bowman Duke Snider #32 SGC 60 EX 5. each of the three New York teams had a player who represented the heart and soul of the team. The Brooklyn Dodgers were so loved by fans it seemed even if the clubhouse trainer left hearts would be broken. This SGC 60 EX 5 copy of the "Duke of Flatbush" is one his more popular cards depicting the Dodgers slugger in a rare horizontal pose. This is a deserving example with just slight corner of note.
1951 Bowman Ted Williams #165 SGC 50 VG/EX 4. Although graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4 there are no creases or wrinkles on this card. There is corner wear, slight age toning and a crescent shaped impression in the top border. A very nice middle garde example of one of Ted's more popular cards.
1951 Bowman Nellie Fox Rookie #232 SGC 70 EX+ 5.5. With all the rookie card hoopla going to that pair from New York, the Chicago White Sox had an infielder who was on his way to a Hall of fame caliber career as well. This rookie card of HoFers Nellie Fox has been graded SGC 70 EX+ 5.5 for centering limitations. A solid excellent to mint card otherwise.
1951 Bowman Willie Mays #305 Rookie SGC 60 EX 5. The second most popular card in this series is the rookie card of baseball legend Willie Mays. This example is a strong copy with a pair of press roller marks framing his face, light corner wear and only a small trace of wax on the reverse. This is a good opportunity to acquire one of the premier cards in the hobby.
1951 Bowman #1 Whitey Ford & #2 Yogi Berra #2 SGC 0 . You can't fault Bowman for starting off with a HoF caliber bang when they made Yankees superstars Whitey Ford (SGC 30 Good 2) and Yogi Berra (SGC 40 VG 3) the #1 and #2 cards in their 1951 edition. Both examples have good eye appeal for the grades.

1959 Topps Mickey Mantle #10 PSA EX 5. Mickey Mantle. Mantle led the Yankees to World Series glory in 1958, helping his squad overcome the Milwaukee Braves in seven games. 1967 Dexter Press Roberto Clemente SGC 88 NM/MT 8. The term "insurmountable odds" generally refers to winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning. It also describes the chances of an 8" x 10" piece of thin card stock surviving almost 50 years without barely a sign of handling or fault. The crisp image of Pittsburgh Pirate great Roberto Clemente presents as vibrant and glossy today as it was when printed, and the corners are sharp. To date, one of a half dozen at this level with only one grading higher.

1968 Topps Mickey Mantle #280 PSA Mint 9 (OC). Offered is a physically superior example of Mickey Mantle's last regular edition Topps card issued during his career. The card has been graded PSA Mint 9 (OC) with off-center graphics being the only condition issue of note. Technically, centering is an element concerning esthetics making this card the ideal place holder for the hobbyist who can appreciate the glossy surface and sharp corners, unaffected by the less than ideal centering of Mantle's timeless portrait in his pinstripe uniform.

If this lot looks familiar to you, there's a reason for that. The Joe Montana Notre Dame Collection, consigned to Heritage by Montana's first wife Kim, initially appeared in our May 2008 Signature Sports Collectibles Auction. Immediately after the close of the auction, Heritage was contacted by lawyers for the Hall of Fame quarterback challenging the ownership rights of certain contents of the lots, and as a result all sales had to be canceled. A year and a half later, with all the dust of legal wranglings finally settled, we are able to present the abridged contents of the archive for your collecting enjoyment. Each lot will be accompanied by a letter of provenance from Kim Montana.
Jim Taylor Signed Original Artwork From "Raitt Collection". From his college days in the early 1930's to the turn of the century, autograph collector John Raitt drew sketches of famous people which he would mail to them, ask them for their autograph and they would return to him for his collection. In more than 70 years he put together a very impressive collection including movie and television actors, politicians, singers, military, government (domestic and foreign) and sports figures, mostly baseball players including many Hall of Famers. There are at least 1,600 signed sketches, and Heritage Auction Galleries is proud to present hundreds of these pieces, which we will feature in a number of different sales.

Offered here is a 5x8" sketch featuring Jim Taylor signed in 9/10 blue ink Piece exhibits the typical pair of horizontal mail folds, light scrapbook tape residue and some light wear. Auction LOA from JSA. Guide Value or Estimate: $150 - $200.
