Rare 1930s NHL sweaters push Heritage Sports Auction past $3M

Original Heisman mold and last bronze statue highlight post-auction bidding

DALLAS, TX - Even as the final hammer dropped on Heritage's already impressive October Signature Sports Collectibles Auction the action was just getting started for a some exceedingly rare high-end memorabilia, as post-auction sales of the original Heisman Trophy mold and four pre-war hockey jerseys brought the final tally surging beyond the $3 million milestone for total sales of $3,025,199.

"These late sales are indicative of the kind of service that Heritage provides to its consignors," noted Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Auctions for Heritage. "Our collecting base is so vast, and our staff so well connected, that we are able to find the buyers for these wonderful but admittedly unique and expensive collectibles."

With the sale of four exceedingly rare and beautiful NHL sweaters from the 1930s, Heritage continued to make its case as the premier destination for hockey collectors.

"I don't think that there is another auction house in the country that could have secured a buyer for these jerseys at the prices that were realized," said Ivy. "It's a small, private and very specialized audience for material such as this, but all of these collectors are firmly on our radar."

The original Heisman Trophy mold and accompanying bronze statue was another piece requiring Heritage's vast market reach in locating a buyer.

"The challenge is part of the fun of this job," Ivy explained. "In addition to setting record prices for more mainstream items such as high-grade vintage baseball cards, placing pieces like these is one of the many ways that we set ourselves apart from the pack."

Highlights of the post auction sales included:
