Muhammad Ali, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig lead Heritage Platinum Night Sports offerings
1971 Muhammad Ali Fight Worn Gloves from First Joe Frazier Bout
In what is traditionally one of the most significant and thrilling sports card and memorabilia auctions each year, Heritage's Platinum Night Auction will be held July 31 at Cleveland's House of Blues. Now Live at HA.com/sports, the auction presents 230 lots of some of the hobby's rarest and most important pieces ever offered.

The gloves that Muhammad Ali wore in 1971 in his first of three Heavyweight Title fights with Smokin' Joe Frazier – a bout properly hyped as "The Fight of the Century" – will join Babe Ruth's 702nd career Home Run baseball and the only known Lou Gehrig-signed ticket from Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939, the day of Gehrig's historic "Luckiest Man" speech and retirement from the game, stand atop the exciting event.

"Our 'Platinum Nights' have become the hobby's showcase for elite sports collectibles," said Chris Ivy, Director of Sports Auctions at Heritage. "Again here, in Cleveland this time, the very best pieces are being offered and we expect high-end collectors will respond enthusiastically."

Sunday Internet Auction
HA.com/Sports is the place to be every Sunday night for collectors of fine sports memorabilia and trading cards.

Over 100 lots will close to initial bidding at 10:00 PM CT. On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding).

Please Note: The Extended Bidding timeframe for the Sunday Internet Sports Collectibles Auctions will be 5 minutes (previous 30 minutes). Catalog Auctions are not affected, and remain at 30 minutes.
No other major sports memorabilia auction house provides its clientele this much bidding excitement. It's just another reason why Heritage is the World's Largest Collectibles Auctioneer.

Call or email today to discuss consigning your fine sport collectibles and trading cards to an upcoming Heritage auction.

Spanning 20 feet long by 9 feet high, British 24-sheet poster may bring $10,000 July 19-20 in Dallas

A one-of-a-kind billboard created in Britain for the 1937 release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs — spanning an incredible 20-feet wide by 9-feet high — may sell for $10,000+ when it crosses the block in Heritage Auctions' July 19-20 Vintage Movie Posters Signature Auction in Dallas. The stunningly pristine 24-sheet poster was printed in England to promote the film and was recently restored after spending 15 years in a private collection.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (RKO, 1937). British 24 Sheet
"Collectors knew this billboard was out there, but it was missing the bottom left panel," said Grey Smith, Director of Movie Posters at Heritage. "The decision was made to finally restore and preserve the poster and we worked closely with experts to ensure this rare piece of popular culture would survive well into the future."

The 1937 release of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs resulted in one of the largest publicity campaigns in movie history. Dozens of posters, banners and standees in various styles were produced to promote the film, but just a handful of billboard-sized posters were produced. The poster was produced in 24 separate sheets before coming together to form a beautifully lithographed image featuring the main characters of the film in three distinct and iconic images.

"The poster itself is based on the work of artist Gustaf Tenggren, a chief illustrator for The Walt Disney Company and instrumental in crafting the familiar characters not only in animating Snow White, but Fantasia, Bambi and Pinocchio as well," Smith said. "So this poster is about as close as you can get to the heart of the film and the animation that literally built Walt Disney Studios in the 1930s."

Smith led the effort to reproduce the missing bottom left panel of the poster based on images he discovered in a rare press book on the film. Once replaced, the entire poster was professionally restored and backed with archival linen. The entire effort to preserve the rare piece of Disney memorabilia exceeded $3,000. The fact it was missing a panel may actually have played a role in its survival.

"As is often the case with billboard posters, if they are missing a panel they will survive because bill posters would not use them if it was incomplete," Smith said. "We are excited to play a role in preserving this rare find for another century. This billboard truly is rarest of the rare."
