Sunday Internet Auction Highlights

HA.com/Sports is the place to be every Sunday night for collectors of fine sports memorabilia and trading cards.

Over 100 lots will close to initial bidding at 10:00 PM CT. On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding).

No other major sports memorabilia auction house provides its clientele this much bidding excitement. It's just another reason why Heritage is the World's Largest Collectibles Auctioneer.

Call or email today to discuss consigning your fine sport collectibles and trading cards to an upcoming Heritage auction.

Website Tips: Buy Now and Minimum Offer for Make Offer to Owner Lots

If you are participating in our Make Offer to Owner program, we have now made it possible for you to select both a Buy Now amount and a Minimum Offer amount on items that are eligible for the Make Offer to Owner program. You can set the minimum offer to anything you want, as long as it is at or above the minimum.

By clicking on the link to "Change the Minimum Offer amount and/or set your own Buy Now price", a window on the page will open up, allowing you to either add/change the Buy Now price, or to add/change a minimum offer. This allows you, if you like, to specify both a Buy Now price and a Minimum Offer price; for instance, you can set a Buy Now price of $1,500, but can still choose to be notified of any offers above $1,300.

Items with both a Buy Now price and a Minimum Offer price are distinguished in the search results by having both the Buy Now from Owner icon and the Make Offer to Owner icon visible. Once on the item page, the would-be buyer can choose between Buying Now at the designated price or Making an Offer.

A desirable side-effect of this change is that it is now possible to remove a lot from Buy Now status. To do this, just blank out the Buy Now amount, and add a minimum offer amount if you choose. If both the Buy Now and Minimum Offer boxes are blank, then you will be notified of any offers above the default minimum.

Samuel H. Walker Daguerreotype May Sell For $75,000+ As Part Of The John N. McWilliams Texas Ranger Collection

[Texas Rangers]. Samuel H. Walker Half-Plate Daguerreotype, circa 1847
A rare and significant half-plate daguerreotype portrait of Capt. Samuel H. Walker is estimated to bring $75,000+ to lead the 343-lot John N. McWilliams Texas Ranger Collection Sept. 21 at Heritage Auctions. Meticulously collected to represent 100 years of Texas Ranger history, the collection documents the birth of the Wild West and contains historically important manuscripts, autographs and rare images pertaining to Texas' greatest early figures.

"The focus of the collection is in two parts: The 1840s-1850s-era, which would be the Jack Hayes and RIP Ford era," McWilliams said about the collection in a special video now posted to Heritage Auctions' YouTube channel. "The second portion of the collection, which is equally as important, is the frontier battalion era, which is dating from the early 1870s until about 1900."

[Texas Rangers]. John S. Rip Ford Half-Plate Ambrotype, circa 1858
The collection is heavy on photographs, original manuscripts and original daguerreotypes, including a circa 1858 half-plate ambrotype of Capt. John S. "Rip" Ford, which is estimated to bring $60,000+. Ford was a well-known and influential Texas Ranger who claimed a victory during the Antelope Hills Campaign at the Battle of Little Robe Creek against Comanche Indians and images of him are scarce. An unusual half-plate daguerreotype of two Rangers dressed as Mexican Vaqueros may fetch $50,000+ and a scarce half-plate ambrotype featuring five armed men, taken circa 1858-1860, may cross the block for $15,000+.
[Death of Samuel H. Walker]. David W. Haines Autograph Eyewitness Account with Watercolor Illustration of the Death of Texas Ranger Samuel Walker
Among the rare and historically important manuscripts, an extraordinary journal book holding an eyewitness account of the death of Texas Ranger Samuel H. Walker, made complete with watercolor illustrations of the scene, is estimated to bring $25,000+. Walker, a Texas hero before the Mexican War, gained national distinction during the war for his work under General Zachary Taylor, his collaboration with Samuel Colt on the development of the Colt Walker, and his heroic death at the Battle of Huamantla.
[Mexican War]. Captain Benjamin McCulloch's Company of Spies,Texas Mounted Volunteers, Muster Roll Signed Ben McCulloch.
A highly anticipated muster roll for Capt. Benjamin McCulloch's Company of Spies, a group of 26 battle-hardened volunteers assembled after the Battle of Monterrey during the Mexican-American War, is estimated to bring $15,000+. The group spied on General Santa Anna's advance, which helped Gen. Zachary Taylor land a victory at the Battle of Buena Vista in 1847.

A cabinet card, taken circa 1888, which depicts the only-known original print of an iconic group portrait of the Company "D" Rangers at the height of their notoriety, is estimated to bring $7,000+. Among the Rangers pictured are Captain Frank Jones, Bass Outlaw, J. Walter Durbin, William "Tink" Durbin, Cal Aten, and Frank Schmid. The card, which has been extensively published, was previously in the collections of Robert W. Stephens and George Jackson.

[John Coffee Jack Hays]. Coin Silver Presentation Cup and John C. Buffalo Hump Hays Carte de Visite Signed.
Among the collection's collectibles is a coin silver cup gifted to John Coffee "Jack" Hays and inscribed "Presented to Buffalo Hump Hays." It is estimated to bring $5,000+. Also among the collectibles is an important Mexican bone-carved chess set, circa 1860s, which may fetch $4,000+ and a telescope given to Col. Francis M. Wynkoop, commander of the 1st Pennsylvania Volunteers during the Mexican War, which may sell for $4,000+.
