Last Chance to Consign to Heritage Platinum Auction

1971 Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Championship Ring
With our upcoming 2013 February Platinum Auction nearly filled to capacity, we would like to take this final opportunity to offer a "last call" for any high-end consignments. If you have any rare and significant sports items that may potentially fit into our most anticipated auction of the year, please call Chris Ivy directly at (214) 409-1319 or email him at CIvy@HA.com.

We also would like to take this chance to highlight one of the most exciting pieces that will be featured in our Platinum Night Auction – a 1971 Dallas Cowboys Super Bowl Championship Ring. The only authentic ring from the Lonestar squad's historic Super Bowl VI season that has ever been offered publically, it was awarded to the Cowboys' Public Relations Director Curt Mosher, who personally consigned the ring to our auction along with a signed letter of provenance. Identical in design to those awarded to Roger Staubach, Rayfield Wright and the members of the fabled "Doomsday Defense," the gorgeous creation features a diamond-studded face and the logo blue star at center, encircled by raised text announcing "Dallas Cowboys, World Champions."

Sunday Internet Auction Highlights

HA.com/Sports is the place to be every Sunday night for collectors of fine sports memorabilia and trading cards.

Over 100 lots will close to initial bidding at 10 PM CT. On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding).

No other major sports memorabilia auction house provides its clientele this much bidding excitement. It's just another reason why Heritage is the World's Largest Collectibles Auctioneer.

Call or email today to discuss consigning your fine sport collectibles and trading cards to an upcoming Heritage auction.

Website Tips: Buy Now and Minimum Offer for Make Offer to Owner Lots

If you are participating in our Make Offer to Owner program, we have now made it possible for you to select both a Buy Now amount and a Minimum Offer amount on items that are eligible for the Make Offer to Owner program. You can set the minimum offer to anything you want, as long as it is at or above the minimum.

By clicking on the link to "Change the Minimum Offer amount and/or set your own Buy Now price", a window on the page will open up, allowing you to either add/change the Buy Now price, or to add/change a minimum offer. This allows you, if you like, to specify both a Buy Now price and a Minimum Offer price; for instance, you can set a Buy Now price of $1,500, but can still choose to be notified of any offers above $1,300.

Items with both a Buy Now price and a Minimum Offer price are distinguished in the search results by having both the Buy Now from Owner icon and the Make Offer to Owner icon visible. Once on the item page, the would-be buyer can choose between Buying Now at the designated price or Making an Offer.

A desirable side-effect of this change is that it is now possible to remove a lot from Buy Now status. To do this, just blank out the Buy Now amount, and add a minimum offer amount if you choose. If both the Buy Now and Minimum Offer boxes are blank, then you will be notified of any offers above the default minimum.

Iconic Film Car, 'Rain Man' 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible, Brings $170,500 At Heritage Auctions

The Iconic 1949 Buick Roadmaster Convertible Car from 'Rain Man.'
One of two iconic 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible car used in the acclaimed 1988 United Artists film Rain Man, starring Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman, and directed by Barry Levinson, brought $170,500 when it came across the block at Heritage Auctions on Dec. 14 as part of an Entertainment & Music Memorabilia auction.

This car, a crucial character in the film, brought a price that shows not only a great love of the film, but also a deep commitment to the preservation of such an important automobile," said Margaret Barrett, Director of Entertainment & Music Memorabilia at Heritage. "The plot of the movie essentially revolves around this beautiful vehicle, making it more than just a piece of screen-used memorabilia. It's the catalyst for the entire movie – a movie for which Hoffman also won an Academy Award®."

The buyer of the car is identified only as an anonymous collector.

Rain Man famously tells the story of Charlie Babbitt, a selfish yuppie of questionable ethics played expertly by Cruise, who learns that his estranged father has died, bequeathing his entire fortune to his other son, Raymond, an autistic savant brilliantly portrayed by Hoffman. All that Cruise's character gets from his father are his prized rosebushes and the car.

"Cruise's Charlie Babbitt is a high-end car salesman and the 1949 Buick figures large in his life as the one car he never got to drive as he was forbidden from it by his father," said Barrett. "Once he and Hoffman connect, they set off on a cross-country adventure in the car, which is in virtually every scene, and the rest is Hollywood history."

The car is a two-door convertible with beige exterior, red leather interior, Straight-8 Fireball 8 cylinders, 320 c.u. inches engine size, 2-speed Dynaflow automatic transmission with a modified rear suspension to hold the extra weight of the camera equipment plus the cameraman when he had to shoot while sitting in the trunk.

"This is a plum prize for the buyer," said Barrett. "It's one of the great screen-featured automobiles from the 1980s, from one of the best films of the decade, besides being a prime example of one of America's greatest classic cars."

Heritage Auctions Announces 'Dollars For Dimes' In 2013 To Benefit The March Of Dimes

Heritage Auctions has announced the creation of a "Dollars For Dimes" charitable initiative in 2013 to benefit the mission of The March of Dimes, one of America's most beloved charities. In it, Heritage will donate $1 to the Dallas chapter of the organization for every dime it sells during the calendar year.

"Heritage has a long history of working with various charities, with the March of Dimes chief among them," said Steve Ivy, Co-Founder and Co-Chair of Heritage Auctions. "We've made standing donations to the March of Dimes for several years and wanted make it more interactive for collectors. They'll know now that, with their purchase of a dime from us — any year and any grade — will result in a donation to a very good cause."

Heritage estimates the total amount of the 2013 donation, based on the numbers from 2010-2012, will exceed $10,000.

The March of Dimes Foundation is a United States nonprofit organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies. It was founded by President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1938 to combat polio. The foundation's annual fundraising event requested that every child donate a dime. Originally known as the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis, the name "March of Dimes" was coined by comedian Eddie Cantor, playing on the name of a popular newsreel series of the 1930s, "The March of Time."
