Oldest Kansas Jayhawks Jersey Known Hits Heritage's Platinum Auction

finest known Babe Ruth signed ball

On August 2 in Baltimore's Camden Yards, and part of the National Sports Collectors Convention, Heritage Auctions' Platinum Night Auction will feature 116 lots presenting an amazing selection of some of the rarest and most significant pieces in the hobby. The finest known Babe Ruth signed ball and his only known 1927 game-used bat, 1912 Red Sox World Series Trophy and Ali's "Thrilla in Manila" fight-worn trunks are among the vast array of sports treasures to be offered on this highly-anticipated night.

circa 1915 University of Kansas Jayhawks game-worn basketball jersey
Unquestionably, one of our most intriguing pieces in the entire auction is a circa 1915 University of Kansas Jayhawks game-worn basketball jersey — the oldest known example from the famed hardwood institute. Derived from the family of an early member of the Kansas athletic department, and apparently its unofficial team photographer, it was discovered along with an assortment of both home and road photos in the mid-1990's.

An appreciation for the significance of this offering should not be confined merely to those with a Jayhawk affiliation, as the roots of the sport are firmly planted in Kansas soil. This is a true, seminal artifact of the origins of the organized game, and a fitting cornerstone for any advanced collection on the theme. Please click here to view the listing.

August 7 KidSwing Golf Tournament

The KidSwing Golf Tournament was founded in 2003 by former Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) patient, Ben Sater. When he discovered that patients receive treatment regardless of their ability to pay, he decided to use his love for golf to give back to the hospital by creating KidSwing, a 9-hole, best-ball scramble for players ages 7 to 18 of all levels of golf ability.

KidSwing is a unique fundraising concept that is unparalleled. Unlike other charity golf tournaments, KidSwing is all about kids helping kids and gives local businesses and corporations the opportunity to help. There is no entry fee to play in the tournament, but players are encouraged to raise $100 by asking their friends and families to sponsor them. Building on the tremendous success of the original KidSwing-Dallas, two more tournaments were created — KidSwing-McKinney in 2008 and KidSwing-Trophy Club in 2011. More than 300 players participated in the Dallas, McKinney, and Trophy Club tournaments in 2011.

Since its inception, KidSwing has raised an astounding $1.2 million for TSRHC.

Sunday Internet Auction Highlights

HA.com/Sports is the place to be every Sunday night for collectors of fine sports memorabilia and trading cards.

Over 100 lots will close to initial bidding at 10 PM CT. On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding).

No other major sports memorabilia auction house provides its clientele this much bidding excitement. It's just another reason why Heritage is the World's Largest Collectibles Auctioneer.

Call or email today to discuss consigning your fine sport collectibles and trading cards to an upcoming Heritage auction.

Rarities From Original 'Star Wars' Trilogy Anchor Vintage Movie Poster Event
Star Wars Concert
More than 50 lots of some of the rarest posters from the original Star Wars movie and its two sequels are being offered at Heritage Auctions' July 25 and 26 Vintage Movie Posters Signature Auction.
The General Died at Dawn
The posters for the original trilogy, originally released between 1977 and 1982, are among more than 1,300 lots of some of the rarest and most desirable vintage movie posters to come to auction, says Grey Smith, the auction house's director of movie posters. "This once-in-a-lifetime selection," Smith says, "includes the rare nylon banner produced for Star Wars' initial release, an autographed poster produced for the Star Wars concert series with artwork by John Alvin and signed by George Lucas, and the scarce Howard Chaykin promotional poster autographed by the artist."
The Wayward Canary
The auction includes nearly all poster styles used at U.S. theaters for Lucas' original three films, plus many used for worldwide distribution, including rare Russian, Polish, Japanese, French, British and German posters.

The auction also features rare animation posters, including Mickey Mouse in The Wayward Canary (1933), Donald Duck in The Plastic Inventor (1944) and Orphan's Benefit (1941), as well as Goofy in How to Fish (1942). "Also included is a beautiful stock 1935 Mickey Mouse poster announcing Disney's famous mouse cartoons in Technicolor," Smith says.

Casablanca half sheet
Also being offered are posters from classics of the Golden Age of Hollywood, such as The General Died at Dawn (1936), Jezebel (1938), Love Before Breakfast (1936), Casablanca (1942), and Baby Face (1933). Classic horror titles include Frankenstein (R-1947), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954), House of Dracula (1945), and Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943).
Bride of Frankenstein Belgian
"We also have a beautiful selection of lobby card sets from a former Universal employee who kept them untouched for 70 years until his death," Smith says. Included are full sets to My Man Godfrey, The Mummy's Hand, Never Give a Sucker an Even Break, as well as almost all of the sets to the chapters of serial classics such as Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe, Green Hornet Strikes Again, and The Phantom Creeps, all in near-mint to mint condition. All date from 1935 to 1943. "Many other rare posters from Western, science fiction, film noir, musicals, James Bond and almost every other genre are included in this auction," Smith says.
