Description:
1887 N28 Allen & Ginter Cap Anson SGC 88 NM/MT 8 - Pop Three, None Higher! The first great star of our National Pastime, Anson debuted at age nineteen with the 1871 Rockford Forest City's of the National Association, laboring twenty-seven years in a Major League uniform prior to his 1897 retirement. He is not just any member of the 3,000 Hits club, he was the founding member of the selective fraternity that set the standard for future excellence. His 1888 season, from which this card originates, National League-leading tallies for batting average (.344), slugging (.899) and runs batted in (84) are rated among the finest of his lengthy term of service. A supremely important relic, this card is certain to reign as the crown jewel of even the finest early baseball card collections.

His handlebar mustache and steely look of determination helps captivate the viewer as one gazes upon this quintessential Victorian era issue. A frosty white field surrounds Caps' boldly printed thigh-high portrait. Remarkably sharp corners and an overall absence of noteworthy wear wholly justifies the SGC 88 NM/MT 8 assessment. This one of a trio of examples to grade NM/MT by SGC and not a single SGC example has been assessed higher. A marvelous example of the most desirable and valuable subject from the most desirable of tobacco card insert promotions.
